In ’n tyd wat dikwels verbind word met nadenke, vernuwing en verantwoordelikheid teenoor ander, spreek die verhaal van Ester met ’n stille maar blywende krag. Ester het nie deur geweld of openlike rebellie opgestaan nie, maar deur wysheid, selfbeheersing en morele helderheid. Toe sy voor absolute mag te staan gekom het, het sy vorentoe getree sonder wapens, ten volle bewus van die persoonlike risiko, sodat ander kon leef.
Haar optrede was nie gedryf deur ambisie of wraak nie, maar deur verantwoordelikheid. Sy het alleen gaan staan waar stilte makliker sou wees, en waarheid en teenwoordigheid gebruik in plaas van geweld. Só het sy gesag uitgedaag sonder om orde te vernietig, en mag verander deur onreg bloot te lê.
Wat hierdie verhaal besonders maak, is dat daar oomblikke is waar geen oop stryd plaasvind nie — waar iemand nie baklei nie, nie veg nie, nie probeer oorwin nie — maar tog getrou bly aan dit wat as reg ervaar word. Soms lê moed juis daarin om nie teen mense te draai nie, maar om ’n besluit te aanvaar wat nie uit eie keuse ontstaan het nie, en dit met waardigheid te dra.
Dit is merkwaardig dat die Naam van die Here nêrens eksplisiet in die boek Ester genoem word nie. Tog is daar ’n duidelike gevoel van teenwoordigheid, van toelating, van ’n groter raamwerk waarbinne menslike besluite geneem word. Ester tree op sonder ’n uitgesproke goddelike opdrag, en tog met ’n diep bewussyn van verantwoordelikheid en risiko. Sy neem ’n stap vorentoe, terwyl ander stappe vir haar reeds geneem is.
Sy het teen die koning se wet opgetree deur hom ongenooid te nader — ’n daad wat haar lewe kon kos. Die koning het egter geluister. Nie omdat hy gedwing is nie, maar omdat hy oortuig is. ’n Menslike besluit is geneem, gebaseer op wysheid, waarheid en teenwoordigheid. En dit is toegelaat. Nie gestraf nie. Nie verwerp nie.
Hierdie dinamiek laat ruimte vir ’n dieper verstaan: dat daar tye is waar mense nie veg vir wat hulle liefhet nie, nie omdat dit ontbreek nie, maar omdat gehoorsaamheid, stilte en aanvaarding soms die enigste moontlike vorm van trou word. Dat dit wat nie beveg is nie, nie noodwendig minder waardevol was nie.
In hierdie sin kan Ester se verhaal nie as ’n direkte profesie beskou word nie, maar wel as ’n voorafskaduwing — van ’n boodskap wat deur mense gedra word, toegelaat word, en nie met geweld afgedwing word nie. Waar Ester voor mag staan met die waarheid oor gevaar, sou Christus later kom met ’n boodskap van verlossing. Albei wys dat ware verandering dikwels gebeur sonder dwang, sonder oorwinning, sonder straf.
Gedurende die Kerstyd, wanneer gemeenskappe rus en saamkom, herinner hierdie verhaal ons daaraan dat sommige gebede reeds gehoor word lank voordat woorde uitgespreek word; dat sommige paaie reeds gevorm is voordat twee mense mekaar ontmoet; en dat dit wat nie gebeur het nie, soms net so betekenisvol is as dit wat wel gebeur het.
Ester se nalatenskap bly dus nie net ’n verhaal van oorlewing nie, maar ook van aanvaarding — van moed wat nie skree nie, van liefde wat nie baklei nie, en van ’n teenwoordigheid wat toelaat sonder om te straf.

Ek onthou daardie aand so duidelik — by die man wat die fondament van ons huise gelê het, en albei ons families saam. Ek en my twee broers het op die bank gesit, en jy saam met jou broer en suster langs jou. Ons het gelag en grappies gemaak, stilletjies gekyk en gevoel dat ons oudstes sommer ‘n ogie moet hou oor hulle..
In daardie eenvoudige oomblik, tussen die lag en die sagte geselsies, het iets stil en sag in my begin vorm — iets wat nie net kinderlik was nie, maar ‘n klein vonkel van verwondering en warmte, net vir my.
Nou, elke keer as ek aan die Green Lady‑projek werk — satyn ge‑eco‑print met blare en blomme, in blou, silwer en roesrooi skakerings — dink ek terug aan daardie oomblik op die bank. Elke vou, elke kraal, dra ‘n stil fluistering van daardie eerste verbinding.
Daardie aand was eenvoudig, vol lag en sorg, maar die herinnering het soos ‘n sagte melodie in my hart bly sing. ‘n Sagte herinnering wat altyd warm bly.

Prime Art is a South African art materials company that’s been active since 1999. They began as a small, family-run business and today are a trusted supplier of art supplies in South Africa. They are importers and distributors of international art brands, but they also develop and sell their own Prime Art-branded products, including paints and artist materials.
While Prime Art brings in many international brands, they also make their own IRIS range of paints — including oil paints — under the Prime Art label.

16 December 2025 – Geloftedag, and the mystery of the Kruger coins
On Geloftedag one usually sits and thinks about things. Big things. Small things. And sometimes… about things that are simply gone.
Like the Kruger coins.
Not one specific coin. No. The Kruger coins. The ones everyone’s uncle had. Or a grandfather. Or an aunt who “kept it safe”. The ones that were always “somewhere” — in a little box, a pouch, a drawer, or a ring that was never taken off.
And then, one day, it was simply… not there anymore.
No one knows exactly when it disappeared.
No one heard anything.
No one saw anything.
But everyone remembers it very clearly.
There are stories. Oh, many stories.
Some say the coins disappeared along with the days when everything was simpler.
Others say they simply grew legs and walked away.
And then there are those who believe the Kruger coin decides for itself when it is tired of people — and just vanishes.
Whatever happened, one thing is certain:
Every South African home has that one thing that “was here, but now isn’t”.
And maybe that is just fine.
Maybe the Kruger coin is not only gold, but a memory.
Of promises.
Of stories.
Of Geloftedag silences where one laughs, wonders, and simply shrugs.
Because some mysteries are not meant to be solved.
They are there to make us smile — and remember.

The three-wheel cart is a compact mobile food-preparation kitchen used exclusively for Pieter Lategan Eats & Treats.
The unit measures 3.8 m x 1.2 m x 2.3 m and is equipped with its own engine for mobility. It is not a gas-powered unit and contains no gas systems of any kind.
Inside the cart is a small, clean, low-power kitchen setup where pancakes, desserts, and light food items are prepared. The equipment includes a mixer, mini-fridge, basic lighting, and small electric cooking tools. All appliances are low-consumption and designed for safe operation.
To function properly, the cart requires access to a standard electrical plug point. This is necessary to run the fridge, lighting, and preparation equipment. No heavy machinery or high-power systems are used.
The cart operates quietly, produces no fumes, and is not open to customers on-site. It serves purely as a dedicated food-preparation workspace for the Eats & Treats menu.
